How Travel Nurses can make more Money |
 |
| |
At least 50% of all Travel Nurse decide to Travel to make more money then they can in their local area and in general, a Traveler makes 30-70% more money verses a full time position. If money is your thing, here are some suggestions to make more.
|
|
| |
Request a Guaranteed 48 or 60 hours per week contract.
We have Travel Nurses that want to just work as much as they can so that they can make a lot of money really quickly. Others want to work hard and then take time off between assignments. If this is something that interests you, tell your recruiter that you want 48 or 60 hour assignments. Even if the Hospital originally wanted 36 hour Travelers, your recruiter will go back and talk to the Hospital about more guaranteed hours.

Max out on the governments tax free per diem
This is one of the most misunderstood questions that Travelers ask us. All Travelers that own or rent a primary residence are entitled to take a housing and meal portion of their pay that will not be taxed. You agency has nothing to do with this.(Certain restrictions apply). It also might be more worth taking a housing stipend from your agency instead of accepting housing from your agency so that you can max out on the tax free per diem. Talk it over with your recruiter and your accountant. In general, by reducing your taxes you could be saving yourself an extra 25% or looking at it another way....earning an extra 25%.

Ask your Recruiter where the best paying jobs are and be willing to go
Some Hospitals really needs help and are willing to pay. Others have less of a need. Some Hospitals are in an area that Travelers want to go to while others really need to pay a Traveler a lot of money to go to the area. Lastly, some hospitals have really tight cost controls in place and just will not open the purse strings. Ask your recruiter about the top paying jobs and be willing to go there.

Work with smaller agencies
Smaller agencies typically will pay a Travel Nurse more because they don't have the overhead that the large public companies do. You will also be surprised to see how much more flexible smaller agencies are and that these agencies will treat you better.
