Travelers Q&A: Why are pay rates different at each Travel Nurse Agency

September 17, 2012

Travel Nurse rates are different for each agency because the rate the hospital is willing to pay is different from one hospital to the next. Also, the larger agencies like AMN ( American Mobil) or Cross Country tend to tell their recruter what rate to pay across the board for all jobs. The smaller agencies are always the best place for Travel Nurses to work with for higher pay because a smaller agency is willing to make less money and to pay the Travel RN more so they can make a placement. Plus smaller agencies have less expenses. Large agencies have more jobs to offer you but at a lower pay. Experience Travel Nurses tend to work with 3-5  smaller agencies verses the large public companies because the Travelers know they can make $3-$6 more per hour and tend to be treated better.
