Travelers Q&A: Why are the rates paid to Travel Nurses different from agency to agency?

January 17, 2012

Rates paid to Travel Nurses are different because of so many factors. The state the assignment is in, what the Hospital is willing to pay, the expenses of the agency, what is included in the benefits the agency is offering,  and many more variables.

It is well known that larger public agencies like American Mobile, Cross Country. MSN, Nursefinders and others do not pay as much as the smaller agencies. The reason for this is because those larger companies have a lot more expenses and are looking to make a large %. The benefits of the larger agencies are that they might have more jobs for you to pick from.

Most experienced Travelers will not work with the larger agencies and will have 3-4 smaller agencies that they call when they are looking for their next Travel Nurse job.
