Travelers Q&A: Why is a normal Travel Nurse contract 13 weeks?

June 20, 2012

We believe it all started 25 years ago when the snow birds would travel south for the winter months and the cold period typically was 13 weeks so it became an industry standard to have a Travel Nurse sign a 13 week contract. However, there are shorter term and longer term contracts depending on the Hospital need. If you want a different term contract tell your recruiter from the Travel Nurse agency you are dealing with and the agency can talk to the hospital to see if they can accommodate you.
