The short version: HealthcareSeeker is free for you to use. We make money when you submit your information and are connected with licensed insurance agents through our partners. This compensation does not influence the educational content, cost data, or plan comparisons on our Site. We show you all options — not just the ones that pay us the most.
How We Make Money
HealthcareSeeker is a free healthcare insurance comparison platform. We do not charge consumers any fees for using our Site, reading our content, taking our quiz, or submitting a form to request plan comparisons.
We earn revenue in the following ways:
| Revenue Source |
How It Works |
| Lead generation fees |
When you submit your information through a form on our Site, we share that information with one or more of our insurance partners. These partners pay us a fee for each consumer introduction. The fee varies based on factors like your location, coverage type, and the partner's current demand. |
| Click-based advertising |
In some cases, we display listings from insurance carriers or partners on our Site. When you click on a listing, we may earn a fee. These listings are clearly identified when displayed. |
| Call transfers |
If you call a phone number displayed on our Site, we may earn a fee when you are connected with a licensed insurance agent. |
Our Insurance Partners
We work with the following lead aggregators and insurance distribution partners to connect you with licensed agents:
- QuinStreet, Inc. — buys ACA marketplace, Medicare, and non-ACA health insurance leads
- MediaAlpha, Inc. — operates a real-time auction marketplace for insurance leads
- EverQuote, Inc. — buys ACA marketplace and Medicare leads
- eHealth, Inc. — buys ACA, short-term, supplemental, and dental/vision leads
- Agile Health Insurance — buys short-term and supplemental health insurance leads
These partners distribute your information to licensed insurance agents and agencies in their networks who can help you with enrollment. The specific agent who contacts you depends on your location, coverage needs, and partner availability.
How Compensation Affects What You See
Our editorial content is independent of our advertising relationships.
What compensation DOES NOT affect:
- Healthcare cost data — The uninsured vs. insured cost comparisons on our Site are sourced from public data (CMS, KFF, FAIR Health, HCUP, MEPS) and are not influenced by any partner relationship
- Plan type comparisons — Our comparison of ACA plans vs. short-term, fixed indemnity, and supplemental plans presents the honest pros and cons of each, regardless of which type generates more revenue for us
- Subsidy estimates — Premium and subsidy estimates are based on CMS data and KFF calculations, not partner preferences
- Educational content — Our state pages, life event guides, occupation pages, and FAQ answers are written to be accurate and helpful, not to steer you toward a particular partner
- Non-ACA alternatives — We present non-ACA options (short-term, supplemental, fixed indemnity) with their real limitations clearly stated, even though these may generate lower revenue per lead
What compensation MAY affect:
- Which partners receive your information — When you submit a form, your lead may be routed to the partner offering the highest bid at that moment. This means different partners may receive your information depending on real-time demand
- Order of partner listings — If we display carrier or partner listings, higher-paying partners may appear in more prominent positions
- Availability of certain plan types — We can only connect you with agents and carriers that are in our partner networks. There may be plans available in your area that are not represented through our partners
What This Means for You
Our business model creates an alignment between your interests and ours in most cases: we earn more when we connect you with the right coverage, because satisfied consumers are more likely to enroll, which is what our partners pay for. An unqualified or mismatched lead benefits nobody.
However, you should be aware that:
- We are not showing you every plan available in your area — only those accessible through our partner networks
- A licensed agent who contacts you is representing their insurance carriers, not you as the consumer
- You are never obligated to purchase any plan, and your use of our Site is completely free
- You can always shop directly at Healthcare.gov or your state's exchange to see all available marketplace plans
Not Government Affiliated
HealthcareSeeker is a private company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to:
- The United States federal government
- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
- Healthcare.gov or any state health insurance marketplace/exchange
- Medicare or Medicaid
How to Bypass Us and Shop Directly
You do not need to use HealthcareSeeker to find health insurance. You can always:
- Visit Healthcare.gov to browse and enroll in ACA marketplace plans directly (no cost, no middleman)
- Visit your state's exchange if your state operates its own marketplace (Covered California, NY State of Health, etc.)
- Contact a local licensed insurance agent or broker directly
- Call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 for free enrollment assistance
We believe our Site adds value by providing clear cost comparisons, subsidy estimates, non-ACA alternatives, and convenient agent matching — but you always have the option to shop on your own.
Our Editorial Standards
To maintain the quality and trustworthiness of our content:
- All content is reviewed by our editorial team, which includes licensed insurance professionals
- Cost data is sourced from verifiable public databases (see our Data Sources & References)
- Content is updated at least annually, with the "Last Updated" date displayed on every page
- We present both the advantages and disadvantages of every coverage option — ACA and non-ACA
- We clearly distinguish between editorial content and advertising/partner content
- Our advertising relationships do not influence which plan types we recommend or how we present cost data
